What Does the Church of Christ Believe?
                                    By Paul D. Fisher

You may have been handed this bulletin and asked to come to our gospel meeting
or you may be a visitor here this morning and, if so, you may have questions
concerning the church of Christ.  With the limited amount of space in this article
I will try to touch some of the highlights as to what the church of Christ is and
what we believe.

First, we believe the Bible to be the only inspired Word of God, and as such, it
should be followed as our guide in all areas of faith and practice.  We believe that
all the Bible is inspired by God, not just parts of it.  We believe that the Bible has
two major divisions, the Old and New Testaments or Covenants.  We believe that
we are under the New Testament today and it is our rule of faith and practice.

Second, we believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the only begotten Son of God, that
He came to this earth, born of the virgin Mary and brought with Him the words
of salvation.  We believe that Jesus suffered and died on the cross, was buried and
on the third day came forth from the tomb never to die again.  We believe that Jesus
is ascended back into heaven and is now on the right hand of God as King of kings
and Lord of lords, that one day He will return to pronounce judgment on all mankind.

Third, we believe that Jesus built only one church and that one church is also the
kingdom over which Jesus is now reigning as king.  We believe that Jesus is the only
head of the church and that each congregation of the Lord's church is autonomous.
We believe that each congregation should have qualified me to serve as elders to
oversee the work of that congregation.

Fourth, we believe that in order for a person to be saved they have to hear the word
of God.  Upon hearing and understanding the word of God, belief in the word is also
necessary. We believe that a person must repent of their sins which involves a
turning away from sin.  Each person must also confess Jesus as their risen Lord
and Savior. Then each person must be baptized for remission of all their past sins.
It is at this point that the Lord adds the baptized person to His kingdom/church.
We believe that after a person has done these things they must continue to walk in
obedient faith to God, repenting of sins they commit and  asking God's forgiveness.
If you have any questions about what we believe or our services, please ask me or
any member here.
