LEVITICUS
by Paul D. Fisher   Feb 4, 2001

Leviticus is the third book written by Moses through the inspiration of God and in
many respects it is unique. God speaks in this book more than in any other book of
the Bible. Yet, for many, this week may have been the first time they have read
completely through the book. A careful study of this book yields up food for the soul
of all Christians for there are forty references in Leviticus to the New Testament.

Leviticus was designed, no doubt, to be a type of handbook for the priests, a guide
book if you will. Remember, worship to the great I AM was a new concept to many of the
Israelites. This was the first time they were thought of as a nation and this is the first time
they had a tribe of priests. This was all so new, so different to what they had been use to
and God knew they needed help in doing what He commanded.

God's holiness and righteousness demands that He punish sin. God in His great love
and mercy knew man could not be pure and sinless so He gave man a way to atone for his
sins through the sacrifices mentioned in Leviticus. In Leviticus, just as in Exodus, we find
that God is a God of detail and He laid out just what to sacrifice and just how to sacrifice it.
Leviticus is a great book which gives us a unique view into the attributes of God.
