Are You A Laborer ln The Lord's Harvest?
by Paul D. Fisher--4/16/00

In Luke 10:2, Jesus admonished the 70 that He was sending out with these words, "The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest." Who were these laborers for which Jesus told these people to pray? Are we to pray the same prayer today?

Far too many in our day think that these laborers must be preachers and missionaries! Jesus picked 70 disciples to go out into every city and place where He would go. These 70 disciples were just like us, common, if I may call them that, followers of Jesus. They are equivalent to Christians today, not just preachers and missionaries!

When you look around Marshfield and Webster county what do you see? People that we cannot reach with the gospel? People who are too busy with the things of this life to care about spiritual things? Do you see fields white, ready for the harvest? We can and should be praying this prayer that the Lord of the harvest would sent forth laborers into His harvest. Remember that when we do that, we need to be ready to go out into the fields of the Lord, for we are the laborers of the Lord! Good things are happening in this congregation of laborers. Let us go forth and gather in the sheaves of the master, for the fields are His and He is the one who says they are white unto harvest!

"And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaki'ng bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart," (Acts 2:47).

The Christians of the first century knew the members of the congregation they attended. This is one of the reasons they could help one another quickly with both physical and spiritual needs. To assist us in getting better acquainted we are starting new visitation program. Even if you have never been involved in any type of visitatic program before, this one is for you.

We will begin by centering in on members who are having physical problem those who are shut-in, elderly people and anyone who needs encouragement. These are your brothers and sisters that you already know and love. There will also be opportunity to meet and invite newcomers to our community to come and worship with us, for those who want to do so.

This all starts Thursday, April 2Oth at 7:00 p.m. and we will do this on the first and third Thursdays of the month. The building will be opened at 6:30 for anyone who wants to come and sing praises to God before going out. We will be going out in pairs and you do not have to make your visit that night, just sometime before the next visitation night.

For those who do not feel like making visits, there will be other works for yo to do if interested. We will need some people to send cards and to make phone calls to those who are sick, for birthdays and anniversaries, and to welcome new people who attend any of our services. There is a work for everyone and an important job to be done. There are brothers and sisters to strengthen and souls to be won! See ye Thursday.
