Isaiah
by Paul D. Fisher -- May 27, 2001

Isaiah, was a prophet of Jehovah during a time when things were going good for the kingdoms
of Israel and Judah. During such times as these it is hard to mm the minds of the people to God.
Isaiah faced, many of the same things as we do today, heartless worship to God, people just going
through the motions and feeling like that is all that is required of them; disobedience to God's law,
people just keeping what they want to keep and thinking that God will be plaeased with them because
they are doing something in the name of religion.

Isaiah's purpose was to warn Judah of impending doom because of their disobedience and to prove Jehovah is God, plus to portray hope through the coming Messiah. There are many key words and
phrases found in Isaiah such as "Jehovah is the Holy One of Israel" some twenty-five times, it is He
who sends forth "judgment" fifty-two times and it is He who sends forth "comfort" eighteen times.

The book can be divided into two major sections, chapters 1-39 judgment from God  and 40-66
comfort from, God. In the Dead Sea Scrolls a copy of the book of Isaiah was found that is 800-1,000
years older than any other known manuscript and it is just about the same as what we have in our
Bibles today.
